Glyder - Glyder (1975)

Glyder's story is largely a mystery, but this british sextet signed with Warner Brothers in 1974 and released their self-titled debut in early 1975. Though there was plenty of financial muscle backing the band, their MOR pop sound fell on deaf ears and the band was packing it in by the middle of 1976. Kiddier (keyboards) went on to do session work, as well as performing in The Bismarcks and The Watch. Bronze (bass) subsequently worked with Procol Harum,Eric Clapton, Andy Fairweather Low and Robin Trower. Engel (drums) later joined 2 Minds Crack in the mid 80's. The remaining members are unaccounted for at this time.

So what to make of this one? Well, for starters, Glyder are often mistaken for being an AOR act, which is completely unfounded. In fact, Glyder are more akin to MOR pop than anything else. With a pop sound that is firmly rooted in pseudo country rock and celtic themes, the band's music inoffensively drifts by with nary a startling hook or passage. Sure, they don't exactly defy any musical conventions here, but there's nothing to despise either. Truthfully, this is perfect for background music. Don't expect anything more than harmless fluff and you'll be satisfied. The bottom line: Glyder are a decent pop act and though I rarely bother posting this kind of thing here, it's good to have it here for the sake of unraveling some of the mystery surrounding this british band. Enjoy this phenomenal rip by 'Nuxx'...

Great album. Good harmonies but i think is to soft to my taste.

I like the two faster paced songs. I like the Celtic influence. Where can I find more of that?

These were friends of mine back in the 70's. Based around the Basildon area the main drive for the band came from Andy Price and Kevin Turner. The album was not a reflection of their live sound at all. It was 'niced up' to make them more of a teenybop band. On stage they were more powerful with their last lead guitarist Max, very hendrix infuenced. After the split Price joined forces with Paul Reynolds and with max and a few others formed The Pinkees and had a couple of hit records in the early 80's. Prior to Glyder, Price and Turner were an accoustic duo called Rip Off, playing in the local pubs around the Basildon area.

I can fill in a few details of some later information, indeed after glyder, andy price went on to form the pinkees with max reinsch on lead and slide guitar, paul reynolds on drums, paul egholm on guitar and vocals, they had bob hector on bass, who had played in a band called strawberry hill, with me,he was later replaced with neville kiddier on bass,i got to know the lads well, and andy price recomended me to kevin turner, who was writing stuff with his cousin wayne such,we recorded an album of stuff, but the band was short lived, wayne packed it up,and kevin eventually did too,as he had a busy day job,im still in contact with andy, who did dj and solo work, max did work recording jingles and stuff for radio stations, but kevin turner seems to have disapeared,i still speak to his cousin wayne on occasions,so will find out more
